This example will show how to upload your own data into Rhiza for Research. It demonstrates how to map your geographic data to the appropriate types so that you can use it for searching and filtering in the Geographic report.

1. Create an appropriate file

Create a .csv file that includes a set of locations. For example, you can copy and paste the following lines into a text file and save it as address_test.csv:

store ID, address, city, state, zip, annual sales
1, 4040 City Avenue, Philadelphia, PA, 19131, 2986412
2, 2000 Route 38, Cherry Hill, NJ, 08002, 1234567
3, 500 West Germantown Pike, Plymouth Meeting, PA, 19462, 1684597
4, 381 West Dekalb Pike, King of Prussia, PA, 19406, 3189562
5, 470 Mall Blvd., King of Prussia, PA, 19406, 1945687
6, 325 Christiana Mall, Newark, DE, 19702, 2578946
7, 400 Commons Way, Bridgewater, NJ, 08807, 2865194

5. Specify the field types in your data

After the system accesses your file, it asks you to set the type for each of the columns in the dataset. It is important to map the geographic fields correctly so that your dataset is useful in Rhiza for Research.

For the example dataset above, the select the following types.

  • store ID = "Whole Number"
  • address = "Street Address"
  • city = "City"
  • state = "State"
  • zip = "ZIP Code"
  • annual sales = "Decimal Number"
